Serving the environment

As the largest water management assocation in Germany, the Ruhrverband has a special responsibility for nature and landscape conservation. Due to its role as a provider of drinking water for five million people, the River Ruhr is subject to meticulous control of its surface water's chemical composition, based on more than 6,000 samples and almost 100,000 analyses annually.

The Ruhrverband contributes to environmental protection not just via water quality and quantity restoration measures, but also via ecological forestry and fisheries management.
